As promised, we've made a short video throwback of the 'Creative inspiration for Children Workshop' (part of the YOS16 Focus Tour) conducted by Deni at our studio last weekend. Enjoy! Deni Rahman represented the studio today by giving a studio tour as part of the 'Focus Tour' segment of YOS 2016, followed by a kids workshop held outdoors. Visitors got a chance to see where all our prints are made in the workshop area. Deni explained to visitors through a step by step demo on how an intaglio print is made with Tere's help. Our little visitors also attempted to make a print with hands on experience with spinning the handle of the etching press in order to better understand how the machine works. Everyone then proceeded outside for the kids workshop, and some did not forget to check out Deni's Printmaking artworks displayed on the studio walls. Tape first demonstrated how a relief print could be produced with a small table press. Deni then showed the kids how they could use found materials in our environment to make prints without using any ink. This technique is called Blind Embossed Printing, where the relief is created by burnishing areas of the object with texture on a piece of slightly damp paper. The paper will dry to retain the impression of the surface being embossed. This also gives the kids an idea of how they can make prints at home without a table press. Here are more photos of the kids in action! And then it came to the end of the session, not without a customary group shot of everyone. Thank you everyone for coming down for the YOS 'Focus Tour' at Grafis Minggiran, and for attending our kids workshop this afternoon! We hope you had as much fun as we did creating blind embossed
prints with Deni at our Grafis Minggiran outdoor studio. See you next time! Just another day working in the studio. We have Suhui for just one more day and she started on 2 new aluminium plates. We really liked how they turned out, especially the last piece with wormy fingers. Thank you Suhui for visiting our studio. We hope you will come back again. All the best! Today we begin a private 2-day Alugraphy workshop with a visitor, Suhui from Singapore. Here are some photos of the day.
Suhui who also goes by Anise, is a singer-songwriter who has a background in graphic design. Have a listen to her recent release here. We had Fatchi Baradja from Bandung over at our studio to conduct a monoprint workshop, which leads up to his solo show as resident artist at Krack! Studio. Click here to view the original post by our friends at Krack! Fatchi's show, WAYFARER, will feature a series of etching aquatint pieces and opens on 8th March 2014 at 7pm with an artist talk on 11th March 2014 at Krack! Yogyakarta. Here and There, Now and Then (HATNAT), is a project between Langgeng Art Foundation and Grafis Minggiran. We brought our press to Langgeng Art Foundation, and all 26 invited artists produced their etchings. Here are the photos of the artists at work. The final works by 26 artists will be displayed alongside old master works made with printmaking techniques, including Francisco de Goya, Kathe Kollowitz, and Albrecht Dürer to name a few, from curator Tony Godfrey's collection of prints.
