For a week now, we've had artist Mike HJ Chang in our workshop as artist-in-residence. We've had an enriching time observing Mike translate his countless sketches into printed matter. We asked Mike to recollect his experience with Grafis Minggiran in a couple of sentences: "I am very new with printmaking so it was good that members of Grafis Minggiran introduced me to the processes and the tools I needed to know in order to work. I learnt how to do etching and alugraphy, and was able to produce 3 plates in total. The mentors helping me, Tape, Lulus, Rully and Alfin, were all very knowledgable and very patient, which I was very grateful. They allowed me to spend as much time as Ineed to get the technique right, which was very helpful for a beginner printer like myself. The residency was very fruitful and has inspired me to continue printmaking in the future. I will recommend this residency to anybody who is new to printmaking or some one who is already an advanced printmaker. " Thank you Mike for the kind words, and for being with us at Grafis Minggiran! Here are some photos from his residency. To anyone interested to do the 'Workshop Tour' 1-week residency program with us, please write to us at [email protected]. Here Today, we welcome artist Mike HJ Chang, who is a Taiwanese American artist currently based in Singapore. This launches our very first Artist in Residence 1-week program, which we call a 'Workshop Tour'.
